I signed up for The Mongol Derby
The world's longest and toughest horse race is a recreation of Genghis Khan's legendary and ancient postal system that spanned an empire. Racing on semi-wild Mongolian horses, riders take on 1000 kilometres of Mongolian wilderness, via a network of 25 horse stations put in place especially for the race and manned by nomadic families and herdsman.
AM I CRAZY??? Maybe… But I have to say, as an ex-rider, this is possibly the most challenging yet satisfying horse ride I could ever dream of!!!
BUT WHY??? Why not?? As a Traveller, this is the kind of experiences that I shall remember ALL - MY - LIFE! This is what I call a PROPER Travel Adventure all right!
WHEN??? August 2019
BUT HOW??? Well, signing up is not enough! You have to be a rider! At least a basic one! Apparently, all candidates are carefully selected, and go through an interview. I was told someone would be in touch with me soon! I’M NERVOUS!
According to TheAdventurist.com “This is no pony trek or guided tour. There’s no marked course, no packed lunches, no beds to sleep in. That’s the whole point. It’s just you, your team of horses and a thousand kilometres of Mongolian wilderness. The course consists of 25 horse-stations at 40km intervals […] You change horses at every station and deliver your mounts to the next in great health. How you navigate between them is where your adventure begins. […] high passes, huge valleys, wooded hills, river crossings, wetland, dunes and of course open steppe.”
Well isn’t THAT exciting??? One thing though! I need £10,000 to participate! Half of which goes to the charity of MY choice!!!
