“Tell me who you hang out with, and I’ll tell you who you are”
How important it is to surround yourself with the right people?
We have all heard the saying but probably never really paid much attention to it. I always thought that I was strong enough not to let others influence me in any way I did not approve of. As I am now creating a new life for myself, I realised how important it is to surround yourself with the right people. When I say the right people I mean the people who are aware of your dreams, of where you want to go in your life, and who will act like a support system for you to achieve your purpose. The right people are the people who will call you on your Bull Sh*t and remind you of that Bigger Picture you hold close to your heart.
“…people who believe in my dreams…”
Yesterday I was volunteering for a Meet your Genius workshop in London, and while I was listening to Ryan Pinnick, the seminar leader, I had never felt such a strong sense of belonging. And if I had before, I was not aware of it. I felt I was at the right place with the right people. I felt so energised to be surrounded by people who believe in my dreams, who believe I am a creative Genius! I felt so confident and happy as my team of fellow volunteering Geniuses made me realise that everything is going to be OK. They reminded me that being myself is the best thing I could do for me, but also the best gift I could give to others, and that nothing and no one is worth giving up my dreams for.
”…they will be your support system…”
I believe that the purpose of life is to be happy, and being happy is really all we need to worry about. We were born without money, and we will die without money. Money is NOT the matter. Find what makes you happy, and go do it! Don’t worry too much about the money, because when you do what you love, money comes automatically. I generally don’t feel very confident about giving any piece of advice, but this time is an exception: surround yourself with the right people, as they will be your support system, they will be that structure in your life which will facilitate your transformation, which will encourage you to continue going for your dreams, they will be the ones reminding you of how amazing you are just in time before you give up, or when you are scared. After time goes by and you progress towards your goals, you will look back and realise that you could have not done it without the support of others. And that is why my friends: You ARE Who You Hang Out With!
Find what makes you happy, create your structure and go get out there!
